Terms and Conditions
Cancellations and Refunds:
If for any reason you can no longer attend a full refund will be given up to 2 weeks before your workshop, minus a £10 admin charge.
After the 2 week notice period we will be unable to refund your class.
However we will always try to fill any cancellations at any point, and if the space is filled, we will offer a full refund, minus £10 admin charge.
If a workshop or class is under subscribed we may have to cancel your booking, you will receive a full refund or option to rebook on another course. Pothole Clay Workshop Ltd (15819883) reserves the right to cancel or change the date of a course where necessary or if it is impractical for the course to run.
If a class is cancelled due to tutor illness and no suitable stand-in tutor can be found then we will reschedule the class to an alternative day.
Late Arrival/Early Departure:
To get the most out of your workshop, it’s best to arrive on time. However, if you are late, we will always try to catch you up in the workshop. Please note that we cannot offer a discount for lateness or early departure.
Missed Classes:
As classes are usually full, it is not usually possible to switch classes. We will do our best to fit you in another class if spaces on other classes are available, but this is not guaranteed and is an act of good will. Any class swaps must happen within the term and cannot be carried over to future terms.
Can I give my missed class to a family member or friend?
For our standalone workshops we are happy to have a stand-in, as long as they are able to attend the full course.
Unfortunately this is not possible for our regular weekly classes, as work often needs to be completed over more than one session.
Finished Work Storage:
You must put your maker’s mark or initials on the base of all work. All finished works (glaze fired) will be kept for 4 weeks after the end of the term, after which they will be disposed off. All finished work must be removed before our open studio/sales in December.
Firing Schedule:
The firing process includes bisque firing (1000°C) and glaze firing (1100-1260°C), typically spanning 3-6 weeks. To conserve electrical energy, we wait until our kilns are full, which affects our firing timeline. If you have a deadline, please allow extra time, with 6 weeks being a good timeframe.
Artists in Residence:
During classes, our artists in residence may be working. They will be respectful of your time and space in the studio, and you will have priority with studio equipment. Please do not touch the work on their desks or shelves.
Work Breakages or Faults:
Ceramics are fragile, and accidents can occur during the firing process. While every effort is made to preserve your work, breakages and faults are non refundable.
Pothole Clay Workshop Ltd cannot accept responsibility for any loss, theft or damage caused to personal effects or work left in the studio.
General:
When placing work on shelves, take extra care and do not move others’ work to prevent breakages.
Wrapped pots on shelves should only be unwrapped by tutors or technicians.
All pots should be wiped clean of glaze on the bottom and slightly around the bottom edge to prevent damage to our kilns. Your tutor or studio technician will demonstrate this if you are unsure.
Health and Safety:
In adherence to COSHH guidelines, students should start cleaning up 15-20 minutes before the end of the session. This allows time for careful labeling, storage of your work, and diligent cleaning of tools and workspaces.
Dust and COSHH Guidelines:
Clay creates hazardous dust when dry. It is crucial to keep the studio free from clay and glaze dust for the health of all students, artists, and teachers.
Thoroughly clean any clay from tools, floors, and surfaces using damp sponges and mopping. Never sweeping, as it generates dust.
Keep clay bags and plastic free from clay. Only touch clay bags with clean hands or wipe the surface clean.
Tie clay bags at the top to keep the clay damp and prevent dust.
Clean floors thoroughly with wet sponges and mops. Avoid sweeping clay from the table onto the floor; wipe it up with a damp sponge or mop.
When trimming pots on the wheel, vacuum and mop afterward.
Do not blow on or rub pieces that are dry or glazed, as this generates dust.
Sanding must be done outside with a damp sander or a proper high-filtration mask.
Other Health and Safety Considerations:
Be mindful of tripping hazards, electric wires (e.g., heat guns).
Pottery wires, needles and knifes can be very sharp, please handle with care. In the event of an injury please speak with your tutor who will direct you to our first aid box.
Social Media and Photography:
Photographs may be taken during class and of students work, which may be used on our website and social media. If you would like to opt out of this please let us know. We will try our best to get verbal consent before sharing any images though.

By booking any of our courses, you agree to abide by our Terms and Conditions.
